HOW TO REMOVE AND GET RID OF CHERRY ANGIOMAS

What is a cherry angioma?

Cherry angiomas are small, red, skin findings that occur commonly in older adults (older than 30 years of age). They are clumps of overgrown cells derived from the inside of blood vessels, or vascular endothelium. The cherry angioma can grow anywhere on the body, but is most commonly found on the torso, back, arms and legs. While they can certainly look concerning like a little drop of blood underneath your skin cherry angiomas aren't a cause for worry.

The exact cause of cherry angiomas is unknown. However, they may run in families. Some other risk factors include: pregnancy, exposure to chemicals, climate, certain medical conditions, age.

These red harmless, dome-shaped spots are usually 1 to 5 mm in size. They are also known as Campbell de Morgan spots or de Morgan spots, named after a British surgeon by the same name. A dermatologist, or skin specialist, might refer to them as cherry hemangiomas, which is derived from Greek. Another derogatory name for them is senile angiomas—that's because they are commonly associated with getting older, usually popping up after age 30.

The most common signs and symptoms that indicate you have developed cherry angioma include:

  • Having a bright cherry red growth or mole on your skin. They may even have other colors, such as blue, purple or black.

  • Having raised or flat appearances. The flat angiomas blend into the skin more smoothly. With age, these angiomas tend to elevate.

  • Bleeding, swelling and other signs of irritation may occur in some cases.
